If you didn’t know and haven’t filed your taxes yet, the filing deadline for your income and state taxes is April 15, 2019. Even though I didn’t fill my taxes early in the season like I typically do, I got them taken care of in less than 5 days and before the deadline by H&R Block. The good news is that if you’re reading this, you still have some time and SHOULD work towards filing your taxes before the April 15th deadline.
The best way to do this is by getting organized first then taking the time to get it done.
Roosevelt 1.) Get all of the tax forms together and in one place. Not knowing where all of your tax forms are or what forms are outstanding is stressful. Make a checklist of all the forms you expected to receive then ensure you have them. Not sure where to start or what you’ll
2.) Figure out how you plan on filing. Do you want to schedule some time to go into someone’s office or try to tackle your taxes yourself? Once you pick a method, set a time to get it done.
3.) File your taxes. If you’ve scheduled an appointment at an H&R office location, make sure you give yourself enough time for the appointment. In office appointments, usually, can take anywhere from 1-2 hours, make sure you plan your day accordingly. If you’re doing what I did and have completed steps 1 and 2, you can upload your docs to the tax pro go portal in as little as a few minutes. If you’re doing your taxes yourself (DIY), then the time it takes to complete your taxes is dependent upon the complexities of your taxes. Regardless of how you plan to file, make sure you set aside the appropriate amount of time to get them done and not feel rushed while doing it.
4.) Review your return. After you’ve laid the groundwork, make sure you review your return. Mistakes and errors can delay the turnaround time on your refund. Make sure it’s accurate before you submit.
5.) File & prep
While there are plenty of options out there to get your taxes done last minute, I cannot recommend checking out H&R Block enough. My own taxes took me less than 20 minutes to do, and I received the file to review and approve the filing in less than 5 days with them. I did this all from the comfort of my own home. If I can do it, you can do it. They offer plenty of solutions to get the job done fast and efficiently, at a great price. Whether you prefer to schedule a meeting in one of their offices, file virtually like I did through Tax Pro
The only thing you should have to think about when it comes to your taxes is which option will work best for you, H&R Block will take care of the rest. Just remember to stay calm and file on.
