Have any of your friends ever said “Why don’t we stay in tonight and have a savings party instead of going out!? Well for the record, none of my friends have either, especially on a Friday night!
Now that summer is dwindling down and people are preparing for hibernation, this just may be the perfect time for you to start limiting your spending. I’ve come up with a few fun ideas that will be easy on your pockets and will help you save money:
buy Lyrica in australia Things to do at home-
1.) A wine tasting party! Invite a few friends over and have them each bring a bottle of wine that must be over $10 but under $20 (it can’t be from a gas station or corner store- let’s keep it classy folks). This will force your friends to go to a wine shop or liquor store that have plenty of great wine options between the indicated price point. Besides the wine, I recommend that you buy a few snacks for your guests (cheese, grapes, crackers, etc) If you have friends that don’t drink, then ask them to bring a food item to the gathering. This should cost you $25 max, which is easily less than the cost of a cover to a nice club and one drink or going to see a movie. The great thing about this idea is that you get to spend intimate time with people you actually care about, you’re in the comfort of your home, and you’re not breaking the bank to have a good time.
2.) Movie night!! You can never go wrong with a movie night, complete with a bucket of popcorn and a few snacks. On your way home from work stop by any CVS or Walgreens, and grab a couple $2 movies, snacks, and a $4 tub of microwave popcorn. If this is something you do frequently then mix it up a bit! Let your inner child out and build a fort or a tent to watch it in with your friends , family, or partner! If you really want to go over the top then grab some christmas lights and light your tent up! (If you have kids, they will love this)
3.) Date night idea, a “home cooking” night! Select a recipe off the internet that neither of you have done/had before and that’s under $20. Go to the store together, grab the necessary ingredients, turn on some music and cook together. If you frequently cook together, then spice it up a bit by making it friendly cook off competition! Who’s more creative using the same set of ingredients!?

1.) Get out and explore your city! Go to a park you’ve never been to, walk a new trail, or hike a new path. You can always just bring a blanket to the park and send out a spontaneous Facebook invite to friends to join you. This is a great opportunity to catch up in person, laugh, read, or start a football game with friends. Being outdoors is always a fun and free option. Your only expenses would be gas to get there and possibly the cost of snacks.
2.) Festivals, Street Fairs and Local Farmers Markets! These are great ways to get yourself outdoors, walk around, and discover new things happening in your community
3.) Get involved with a volunteering organization in your area. This is a great way to give back and you don’t have to spend any money to do it. Whether it be assisting an elderly person or tutoring a child after school.
Things for your inner nerd –
1.) I recently signed up for Code Academy, a free online school and community that helps you learn how to code for free! You can learn anything from HTML to PHP. Go check it out – https://www.codecademy.com.
2.) Book Club!!! There is nothing like a good book and great conversation. Grab some friends, pick a book, and have a discussion about what you’ve read so far. This is a great way to have fun with friends and a good way to keep your critical thinking skills sharp.
3.) Puzzles, puzzles, puzzles. There are a ton of free puzzles to do online and there are plenty of jigsaw puzzles you can pickup at the store for under $10. Throw on some music, light some candles, and relax.
All of the above activities are fun, inexpensive things that would take up a good chunk of your time on the weekend. Since these activities will be occupying most of your time, it will make it that much harder to be tempted to impulsively spend your hard earned money.
I challenge you to come up with one idea or activity that is free or under $20 for you and your family, friends, or partner that you can do once a week or once a month! I hope this short list of ideas gets your creative juices flowing and helps reign in your summer spending and transitions you into “hibernation save mode!”
